How to compress images for a faster website

A practical guide to image compression, quality settings, pixel size, and WebP exports for faster websites.

Open Compress tool

Start by resizing oversized camera photos. A 4000 pixel image rarely needs to stay that large for a blog card, product thumbnail, or landing page.

Use JPG for photos, PNG when transparency matters, and WebP when your site workflow supports it. Lower quality until the file is smaller but edges and faces still look natural.

Keep original images somewhere safe. Export compressed copies with clear filenames so you can repeat the workflow without losing master files.

Quick workflow

  1. Make a copy of the original image if it is important.
  2. Use the focused PixelForge tool for the task.
  3. Download the processed version and test it in the destination upload form.
